Preparing for the Arrival of your New Cat
Dogs may be popular pets, but they are not nearly as cute and cuddly as cats. Before you get a cat, you will need to prepare for its arrival. Here are a few tips to ensure that you are properly prepared.
It is best that you have everything ready before your cat arrives, instead of trying to scramble to get everything setup once you have your your cat around. You will need to get bedding, food, dishes, and litter.
There are different types of food and water dishes that you can buy. Dishes made from stainless steel are probably the best option. You will have a very easy time keeping them clean and they will not cause irritation to your cat’s face like plastic bowls sometimes do.
New cat owners have even more options when it comes to choosing food. If you are adopting a cat from a shelter, then you should talk to the personnel there to try and find out what the feline has been eating. You will want to continue feeding them the same type of food if possible.
If you do not have this information, then you should try to feed them a high-quality cat food. Low-quality brands do not provide your kitty with all of their nutritional needs. Some brands have even been known to increase the risk of health problems in the future.
Cats need to be provided with a litter box so they will use the bathroom. As a responsible owner, you will need to do your best to keep this litter box as clean as you can. If you do not, then your cat will likely go to the bathroom all over your home.
There are different types of litter that you can buy to prepare for the arrival of your new cat. Some need to be scooped out on a daily basis, while others can go a week or so. Research your options and make a wise decision based on how much time you have in your schedule, and your budget.
Cats are very active and will need something to keep them entertained. If you do not provide your cat with enough toys, do not be upset when your home gets messed up. Cats love to scratch furniture, so it is best to get your cat a scratching post.
Most importantly, you will want to cat-proof your home before your cat arrives. Many things lying around your home can be hazardous such as wires, pieces of string, and rubber bands. Remove as many of these items as you can.
